We did it! On Monday morning my tramily and I arrived at the northern terminus of the PCT.
It was a glorious moment, touching the Canadian border. The preceding three weeks in Washington had been a long difficult slog. In these remote, rugged, cold and wet North Cascades, we were pushed to our limits. The accumulation of five months worth of physical and mental fatigue weighed on us, but we pushed hard to hike long 25+ mile days in order to finish on our target date of September 16th.
The final “family dinner” before reaching CanadaUnfinished Business
We were immensely proud to make our goal, but one task still remains. There are about 80 miles in Oregon that we had to skip due to fires. We are going to go fill in that section.
With only that one small section missing, we won’t feel satisfied until the entire footpath, Mexico to Canada, is completed.
Much more to say
The more I hiked, the less time I had to blog. The reality of my thru-hike was I was hiking from first light to dark every day, which didn’t leave much time for keeping up with the blog. Once the final section in Oregon is complete, I’m looking forward to having more time to reflect on all that I have experienced in the past five and a half months. I still have a lot that I want to write about, even if it’s after-the-fact.
My flight home is booked for September 27th, just five days away!

I was just thinking how weird you will likely find it when you get back to your day job. Do you even remember eating food cooked for more than ten minutes, water from a tap instead of a filter, a bedroom you can stand up in, no foot pain, the same drive to work every day…
Geeeeez Dad, way to be DEPRESSING. Give a bean some time to enjoy 😆
Congrats to making it, can’t wait to read more of your journey.
Hi Kirby !
